Golden Eagle: Passions for life - Skills for life - Memories for life
Being at Eagle House is not just about the classroom, the sports pitch or the music rooms. We want all our children experience a wide range of activities and opportunities to help develop lifelong passions, to give them the confidence to give things a go and to encourage them to work as part of a team.
This is why we have created our co-curricular programme, Golden Eagle, and why it forms an integral part of school life. Every day of the week a minimum of 45 minutes is timetabled to Golden Eagle and all children are encouraged to participate. In the summer term a whole week is dedicated to the programme.
The programme includes:
Every Monday to Friday, the children can choose from a selection of nearly 60 clubs and activities run by members of staff and external providers – including Chess, Street Dance, Lego Club, Trampolining, Tumbling and Gymnastics, Basketball, Greek, Sailing, Yoga and Cooking Club – to name just a few. The full list of clubs is available via the tab on the left of the page.
Every Saturday morning, an hour and a half is dedicated to a Life skills, Service and Teamwork programme. This might include a Leadership session at our Outdoor Learning Centre; Teamwork Challenges at a local lake; Litter Clearing and Ground Maintenance in the local community; Sign Language and Life Saving lessons or a Mindfulness course. At the end of each activity the children are awarded a Golden Eagle certificate recognising their contribution to the programme. An example programme is available via the tab on the left.
Every summer each year group in the Prep School gets to spend a few days away at a different location in the UK or France. The adventures range from an overnight stay in the boarding house for Year 3, to a week away in Wales for Year 5, to nine days in the South of France for the Year 8’s. All the adventures are designed to be challenging but also huge amounts of fun; helping to develop confidence, independence and leadership. More details of this year’s trips are available via the tab on the left.
Throughout their time at Eagle House, children are encouraged to keep a record of all their various achievements in their Golden Eagle folder. This allows them to celebrate everything positive they have achieved - big or small – from the Golden Eagle programme, the classroom, music rooms or sports pitches. As children leave Eagle House this provides an invaluable record of their time with us.
