Wellington College, Tianjin (WCIT) first opened its door to students on August 22nd 2011.
It was born out of a vision to take the 8 aptitude model of education so successful implemented at Wellington College UK to the rest of the world. Built on a strong academic ethos the all-age, fully co-educational school sets the highest expectations both inside and outside of the classroom. Pupils sit International GCSE’s and provisions are being made to embark on the IB Diploma*.
The heritage and traditions of Wellington College UK feed into to the ethos of WCIT through tangible links and worthwhile exchanges.
The strong sense of community and pastoral care is being developed and provided through a parallel house system. A program of well-being developed at Wellington College, UK is being delivered to pupils.
With a state of the art theatre, indoor swimming pool, running track and sports center it has facilities to match the best international schools in the world.
This year saw the beginning of forming long and lasting relationships between the two schools. The idea is to take the best of British education to China while taking into account cultural norms and the regional realities of Tianjin. A key ingredient is to ensure that Wellington Colleges ‘DNA’ is present in WCIT.
WCIT added another dimension to the coming together of the Wellington family of schools to celebrate Wellington College’s 150th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall on 30th April 2012. The performance of 4 yr old Mimi Zou on the piano and the dragon dance by pupils from the school was performed in front of an audience of five thousand people.
