There are four Sections at Eagle House – Harriers, Kites, Merlins and Ospreys.
Each child is placed in a Section when they move up to Year 3 from Pre-Prep or when they join the school. Each section has around the same number of children in each year and the sections are balanced so that each child can contribute to the life of the school both inside and outside the classroom. The sections are encouraged to be competitive and to strive to do their best individually whilst at the same time the children must appreciate the efforts and victories of others.
The Sections compete for points over the course of a term in academic, conduct, sport, arts and music and general categories. The termly competition engenders a great sense of community.
Pupils can gains Stars or lose Section Points for work and behaviour and this helps children take on responsibility for their actions in school.
Section matches in each relevant sport for boys and girls are fiercely competed each term. Sports Day in June celebrates athletics and every Section member competes in field and track events, accumulating points as they go. The annual Section Shout, a singing competition, brings together the whole Section in a battle of song! The Poetry Speaking Finals also generate points for each Section.
The Section with the most points at the end of each term wins the Section competition and this results in a half day celebration – ice skating, swimming, bowling are just some of the treats winning Sections have enjoyed. The Section that has the most points over a year taken from academic, social, cultural and sporting pursuits wins the Section trophy.
Every member of a Section has a ‘Buddy’ that they can meet up with at the weekly section meetings and there is a sense of community that each Section develops, particularly during the various competitions that happen throughout the year.
