Years 3 and 4 form the first two years of the Prep School. These classes are grouped together and form a secure and nurturing Junior Department within the main teaching building.
There are three form tutors in each year group and these tutors teach the children for English and Maths. The Junior Department works closely with the Pre-Prep to continue the IPC (International Primary Curriculum), to teach Science, History and Geography through relevant and exciting thematic units. This is also delivered by the form teachers providing the children with excellent continuity in the core academic subjects. The children enjoy the opportunity to visit specialist teachers for Music, Art, Design, IT, PE Mandarin and French with these members of staff linking their teaching to the IPC where relevant. In addition the pupils in Years 3 and 4 enjoy a 90 minute Games lesson 3 days a week plus every pupil given the opportunity to play sports matches against other schools each week.
All the teaching in these year groups is aiming to inspire the children and promote their natural curiosity. Termly academic targets empower the children to understand how to develop their learning and regular, informal assessment that is tracked closely by the form tutors and the senior academic team ensures all pupils are supported and extended appropriately.
