Food Technology is an exciting and motivating subject for all pupils and involves learning valuable life skills which are relevant to a healthy society.
At Eagle house we have a fully equipped, purpose-built facility for every child to experience Food Technology hands on. Practical work provides the perfect environment for learning and pupils have the opportunity to prepare their own recipes ranging from smoothies to fresh pasta. At the end of the lesson they can either enjoy their work for lunch or share it at home.
A variety of ingredients is provided to allow for individual preferences, and pupils are encouraged to try out new flavours and really enjoy the rewards of cooking.
Each year group investigates a topic which helps them understand the importance of eating a balanced diet, as well acquiring basic preparation and cooking skills.
In Textiles, pupils also have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and create designs using fabric. Basic hand-sewing techniques are taught and pupils quickly progress to using sewing machines to produce their projects from pin cushions to juggling balls.
Both subjects benefit from small groups which allow for pupils to explore and investigate their own ideas individually.
